Dear Parents/Carers,
We will be holding our ‘Feed The Need To Read Week’ during the second week back after half term, i.e. week beginning Monday 7th March.
Our theme for the week will be ‘cultural diversity’ and the children will be focusing their learning on books from different cultures and with a female lead character.
Nursery & Reception will be reading ‘Shu Lin’s Grandpa’
Year 1 & Year 2 will be reading ‘Laila’s Lunchbox’
Year 3 & Year 4 will be reading ‘The Proudest Blue’
Year 5 will be reading ‘Malala’s Magic Pencil’
Year 6 have already started their reading of ‘The Girl Who Stole an Elephant.’
Our dress up day will be held on Thursday 10th March where we would encourage children to dress either as their favourite female character, if appropriate, or their favourite character from a different culture. However, we are not asking that parents go out and purchase outfits or costumes so in the event that your child/ren doesn’t have anything to wear based on the theme of female cultural diversity, then they are welcome to attend as their favourite character from any book.
Lots of regular activities will be planned for the week, including ‘Reading Buddies,’ ‘Reading in the Most Unusual Place,’ ‘Poetry recitals,’ ‘Book Review competitions,’ and much, much, more.
Mr. Taylor will keep you updated throughout the week.
Kind Regards,
Mr. Hankey & Everyone at Ball Green Primary School
